Director’s Statement

In a world that feels increasingly divided and uncertain, I find myself deeply concerned about the future my daughter will inherit. It is within this context that I embark on this cinematic journey, driven by a desire to mend the fractures in our society.

I recognize that a single movie alone may not have the power to change the world. However, what if it could influence the minds of a few individuals? What if it could challenge people to break down their barriers and truly connect with the humanity in others? What if it could inspire young hearts, regardless of their backgrounds, to discover love, hope, and the potential that lies within them?

During my research on Woodstock and the late 60s, I was struck by the parallels between that era and our present times. It became evident to me that we are not alone in our struggle for unity amidst division. This realization fuels my conviction that the right film, seen by the right person, has the potential to inspire profound change. By embracing diverse perspectives, we can witness the transformative power of open dialogue and empathy.

In 1969, amidst a deeply divided America grappling with civil rights, the Vietnam War, and women's liberation, half a million individuals gathered on Yasgur's farm in Bethel, New York. They celebrated music, art, and love in a time of immense tension. Is it naïve to believe that we can recreate such an atmosphere today? To set aside our differences, disconnect from our devices, and engage in authentic conversations that bridge party lines? I don't think so.

I see the seeds of change sprouting all around us. When I observe my daughter and her friends, I witness a generation committed to effecting positive transformation. I see tolerance and understanding blossoming within them. I see younger children consciously choosing empathy over violence and ridicule. It is these glimpses of progress that fill me with hope, assuring me that it is not too late to heal our broken earth.

Undoubtedly, the path ahead will be challenging, but I steadfastly believe that it is achievable. Love, I believe, is at the heart of this journey. All we need is love, and love is all we need. It is love that will bind us together and propel us toward a brighter future.

Through this film, I aim to evoke emotions, provoke introspection, and ignite a flame of inspiration within the hearts of those who experience it. It is my sincere hope that this cinematic endeavor will contribute to a movement of unity, compassion, and positive change, just as the counterculture movement of the 60s did.

Together, let us embark on this transformative journey, fueled by the power of love, and work towards mending our fractured world.
